JAG (Jersey Association of Gamers) was started in 1991 with an original band of 13 members playing in people's homes. This collection of gaming souls were mostly Roleplayers and Sci-Fi miniaturiasts. As time went by the club grew to include, and eventually was overrun, with boardgamers and historical miniaturists. We experimented with our own monthly newsletter/magazine which was distributed to over 1500 gamers in the Northeastern U.S. and even had a club hotline for a short time for people to get the latest meeting updates and schedule changes.
We are now beginning our tenth year of existence and have developed a limited club game library, a monthly postcard (club news and meeting dates), a Post Office box, a web site and a permanent place to play. Currently JAG is at 22 full members and about 10 associate members and we rent a hall located in a church (First Congregational Church of Park Ridge) in Northern Bergen County NJ and of the original 13 members only 3 remain active.
JAG also supports most major mid-Atlantic conventions (Historicon, Fall-IN, Cold Wars, World Boardgaming Championships) and are helping to sponsor a new convention; Mountain Wars located in the Sussex County NJ area. The membership are from diverse backgrounds ranging from teachers, computer professionals, police officers, sales persons, managers, self employed entrepreneurs, etc. The club has no gaming dogma and will play anything from historical hex based games, family boardgames to historical, fantasy or Sci-Fi miniatures. |
